BIOGRAPHY

Brian was born in Subiaco, Western Australia in 1938. He is a full time artist who has studied fine art in many mediums and subjects for over fifty years which includes a full time degree course at the Curtin University Western Australia.

He worked for many years as a lithographer in the printing industry for various companies. The Sunday Times, New Idea magazine in Melbourne,  and an advertising agency, before becoming a professional artist in 1990. earning a living by busking as a portrait artist in galleries, hotel lobbies, and even on a Mediterranean cruise ship.

He has exhibited in many showings and won numerous prizes and awards for drawing, oil painting, and mixed media works throughout his career, and his work can be found in many public and private collections across Australia.

His award winning body of work spans genres and decades, his nomination for the Children’s Book Council Crichton Award for best new illustrator for his contribution to Lighthouse Girl (Fremantle Press, 2010) and his own 100 page coffee table book of paintings The River (also Fremantle Press), are recent successes.

In September 2012, he took part in an international art symposium in Vienna Austria ( Pochlarn ).

In April 2013 the sequel to Lighthouse Girl was launched by the Governor of Western Australia, and Light Horse Boy went on sale.

In October 2013 a companion to The River was released and Rottnest Island was launched and went on sale at an exhibition of the original illustration artwork.  In 2013 Light Horse Boy was chosen for inclusion in the Australian Publishers Association children’s book illustration exhibition in Bologna Italy at the 2014 children's book fair and for the second time Brian was shortlisted for the Children's Book Council of Australia awards for Illustration , and in the same year, for the Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards.

In addition to his personal art pursuits, he has taught drawing and painting courses for the University of Western Australia through it’s extension programme, He exhibits regularly and currently teaches “Art for Recreation“ at his own organization.
